Dedicated to our beloved Bernie Mac, the Grand Yorkie
Born on September 5, 2008, departed this life on August 12, 2025.
Bernie was acquired by the Gantts on November 8th, 2008, at the tender age of six weeks. He was one in a litter of 3, 2 boys and 1 girl. He came with papers and a ton of cuteness. It was clear from the start that he was going to be a little heart snatcher.
As a puppy, he quickly established that he was going to be a charmer and a controller. During his crate training, the doors had to be locked because the little stinker learned how to open the doors and escape the crate at will!
He graduated from Pets Smart obedience school, where he pulled the wool over their eyes! In class, he did exactly as he was instructed, but when he got home all bets were off and Bernie did what Bernie wanted to do and still demanded treats!
He was smart, feisty, charming and could have a flair for the dramatic. In true Yorkie style, Bernie had no hesitation to challenge a dog that was many times his size. In that regard he was fearless.
He liked to explore his surroundings and would take advantage of the opportunity to slip through a cracked door and take off running. Many was the time that family members had to chase him down, and he wasn't easy to catch. He could run like the wind!
He had a full social life and traveled extensively between Georgia and North Carolina.
About 4 years ago Bernie lost his eyesight. This slowed him down but it did not stop him. He would sniff his way around his surroundings. If that's what he needed to do.
He loved attention and he loved taking his daily walks. He wasn't crazy about bath time or visits to the kennel or the vet.
The grand.
Kids took very good care of him. Especially Danyelle who was with him right up until the end.
Left to cherish his memory, is a host of family and friends; Eleanor, Jab, Danyelle, Zion, Tony, Jimi, Erika, Kia, Darrius, Sabrina, Kenya, Kareem, Niecy, Evonne, Elijah, Andrea, and many others.
Bernie lived a full life of almost seventeen years. He will live in the hearts of those of us. Who love him forever.
Farewell, dear Bernie Mac. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU!
